4 Compress


When practising the tutorials it is worth using a Ramdisk.  For further details of a ramdisk go here.

Some files are too big to send by email or too big to store on USB FAT32 stick.  They need compressing to take up smaller space.  A modern zip compression has  better compression

Create files needed for tutorial instructions given at "Test Files for Comparing Directory functions" here.

4 Compress - small file


  • By Mouse
  1. Click on "Utilities"
  2. Click on "Archive - Compression - Join - Split Files"
  3. Click on "4 Compress"
  • By Keyboard
  1. Type "ALT+U"
  2. Type "A4"
  3. Select "Check" directory


  1. Click on "a.txt"
  2. Type "ALT+1" or click on "Select File -1" button
  3. Type "ALT+2" or click on "Destination File -2" button


  1. Type "ALT+1" or click on "Select File -1" button


  1. Type "ALT+O" or click on "OK" button
    1. returns to opening Screen

4 Compress - Large file

  • By Mouse
  1. Click on "Utilities"
  2. Click on "Archive - Compression - Join - Split Files"
  3. Click on "4 Compress"
  •     By Keyboard
  1. Type "ALT+U"
  2. Type "A4"
  3. Select "Check" directory

  1. Click on "testfile.txt"
  2. Select "All files large Compress (ext elzp)
  3. Type "ALT+1" or click on "Select File -1" button
  4. Type "ALT+2" or click on "Destination File -2" button
    1. File "G:\check\testfile.txt.elzp" displayed

  1. Type "ALT+3" or click on "Process -3" button
    1. File "G:\check\testfile.txt.elzp" of size 102,606 is created
    2. File "G:\check\testfile.txt" size is 2,228,890


  1. Click on "OK" button
    1. Display returns to opening display


4 Compress - Split and Compress

  1. Click on "Utilities"
  2. Click on "Archive - Compression - Join - Split Files"
  3. Click on "4 Compress"
  •     By Keyboard
  1. Type "ALT+U"
  2. Type "A4"
  3. Select "Check" directory

  1. Click on "testfile.txt"
  2. Select "All files Split and Compress (ext 0elzp)
  3. Type "ALT+1" or click on "Select File -1" button
  4. Type "ALT+2" or click on "Destination File -2" button
    1. File "G:\check\testfile.txt.0lezp" displayed


  1. Type "ALT+3" or click on "Process -3" button
    1. testfile.txt.0lezp 194 bytes created
    2. testfile.txt.1lezp 46,489 bytes created
    3. testfile.txt.2lezp 45,937 bytes created
    4. testfile.txt.2lezp 10,676 bytes created




  1. Display returns to opening display
